Ep85: Mike Goldman on Secrets to Performance Breakthroughs
Wednesday Jul 29, 2015
Wednesday Jul 29, 2015
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a company of 1,000 or a company of 1: Culture matters. It’s an energy that sends a message about who you are and what you stand for. And it’s key to whether your company experiences performance breakdowns or breakthroughs. Our guest today is an expert in defining company culture and taking a strengths-based approach to growth. We talk about ways businesses large and small can shape their culture, as well as how we can shift the way we see “engagement” so that it includes all types of communication styles, introverted and extroverted.
Mike Goldman is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant and author of the book Performance Breakthrough: The 4 Secrets of Passionate Organizations. He has over 25 years consulting and coaching companies from the local entrepreneur to the Fortune 500.
Throughout his career at Accenture and Deloitte Consulting, he helped companies like Verizon, Disney, Polo Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Kmart, Dillard’s, Liz Claiborne and Levi Strauss.
In 2007, Mike founded Performance Breakthrough to help mid-sized companies achieve dramatic business growth. He does this by working with leadership teams to ensure they have the right people, strategies and execution habits for growth.

“In addition to passion, you must develop a skill that provides a solution to a problem.” ~Chris Guillebeau
We heard Pamela Slim in episode 68 tell us that "Hating your job is not a business plan. Feeling a passion is not a business plan either.” My conversation with introvert entrepreneur Chris Guillebeau, author of “The $100 Start-Up" and "The Happiness of Pursuit," and founder of the World Domination Summit, builds on that idea. It’s one of the biggest ways that people romanticize entrepreneurship: they believe that identifying and following a passion is the way to happiness and riches. But that’s only part of the story. There has to be an intersection of your passion and skills with the market’s needs in order to build a business.
You’re about to hear Chris’s perspective on what it takes to find that magical balance, along with some insights as to how he takes care of his introvert energy while facilitating and leading one of the year’s largest events for people who want to change the world.
PS: In case you missed my post-World Domination Summit post, here it is.

Monday Jul 07, 2014
Monday Jul 07, 2014
When introverts learn more about themselves and then discover others like them, there’s one overwhelming response: I am not alone. My guest today writes about that how to use that awareness to your advantage in her eBook, “The Introverts Guide to Success in Business and Leadership.” She writes, “Acknowledging and understanding the real meaning of this simple statement is a key tenet to succeeding as an introvert.”
Lisa Petrilli is Chief Executive Officer of C-Level Strategies, Inc. She is passionate about visionary leadership and true empowerment. This podcast focuses on another of Lisa’s passions: helping introverts succeed in business. Through her eBook, “The Introverts Guide to Success in Business and Leadership,” Lisa shares what she discovered about how to use her introversion to her advantage.
Our conversation focuses on the transition from corporate life to the entrepreneur life, as well as self-promotion and introverts as strong leaders.

Ep59: Building an Extroverted Brand, Introvert Style: A Conversation with Tony Hsieh
Thursday Feb 06, 2014
Thursday Feb 06, 2014
In this first episode of 2014, I'm pleased to welcome Zappos.com CEO, "Delivering Happiness" author, and introvert entrepreneur Tony Hsieh to the podcast. We cover a range of topics, from how he handles his role as a very public leader to how his style meshes with the more extroverted culture (it's been called "zany" and "the whackiest," and encourages chance encounters to stimulate connection) of Zappos. We also touch on the new holacratic organizational structure that Zappos is adopting, and what motivates Tony to continue his investment in people and community.
Be sure to listen all the way to the end, when I announce just a few of the fabulous guests yet to come in 2014!
Dedication: This podcast is dedicated to Francis Vijay,
a podcast fan and loyal member of The Introvert Entrepreneur Facebook
Community. He sent me a message a week or so ago, requesting new
podcasts (it's been a little while since the last one!). So Francis,
this one's for you!

Effective Leadership, Introvert Style: A Conversation with Jim Hessler
Tuesday Sep 24, 2013
Tuesday Sep 24, 2013
Much has been written over the past few years about introverts and leadership. While the conversation has been rich and informative, there is still progress to be made when it comes to introverts being seen as leaders... even among introverts themselves.
In this edition of The Introvert Entrepreneur Podcast, I speak with leadership development consultant Jim Hessler. We talk about three strengths that can increase an introvert's leadership effectiveness, the role of suffering in finding your true career path, and why introverts might have an edge when it comes to sales.
Jim Hessler is founder of Path Forward Leadership Development and the co-host of the popular podcast “The Boss Show.” Jim has spent the last 11 years as a leadership educator and facilitator after a long career as a business manager specializing in turning around underperforming business operations. Jim is also the co-author of the book “Land On Your Feet, Not On Your Face.”
